Some Family Day 2015 Activities in Southwestern Ontario



Family Day is coming up soon!  Isn’t it great to live in a place that has a holiday focusing on family time?    Have you made any plans for how you will spend this day with your family?  We’ve gathered up some fun ideas for you of activities from around our region.


The Guelph Civic Museum is open (starting at 10 am) with fun family activities all day.  Admission is by donation.

Experience the excitement and action of the Guelph Storm (2014 OHL Champions)  in their game against Windsor at 2 pm. 

The Guelph Lake Nature Centre is having a Big Chill Outdoor Fun Day starting from 11 am to 2 pm.  Free admission (donations welcome) includes skating, horse drawn sleigh rides, campfire, dog sledding, cross country skiing, chickadee feeding, ice fishing and much more! Food trucks will be on site.


 The Mississauga Celebration Square Ice Rink will be open from 10 am to 10 pm. 

Family Dayxtravaganza is taking place at the Mississauga Convention Centre from 10 am to 4 pm.  The main event is the President’s Choice SuperDogs performing tricks and stunts. There will also be a performance by Q-Mack, who does juggling, magic tricks, basketball tricks and more while accompanied by the J-BOX,  the Canadian Beatboxing Champion, Safari Science with their reptile friends from around the world, Applefun and their puppet performances, a Kids Zone with bouncy castles, crafts, games, face painting, and so much more.


Winterloo is taking place from Valentine’s Day through Family Day in Uptown Waterloo from 11 am to 4 pm each day.  Winterloo events include: dog sled rides, ice sculpting, 4 on 4 hockey, art activities at the Button Factory, free public skating, free family movies, and a chili cook-off.

The Waterloo Region Museum is having fun family activities that you can enjoy while visiting Ocean Bound, an exhibition exploring the science of watersheds, aquatic animals and oceans. Open 11 am – 5 pm.


The Brampton Beast takes on the Tulsa Oilers 2 pm at the Powerade Centre. 


The Fergus Arena is having free public skating from 11 am to 1 pm and 1:30 to 3:30 and a free public swim from 1 – 2 pm. 

The Wellington County Museum and Archives is celebrating Family Day by honouring the military. They will be highlighting the contributions of Wellington County military families, sharing tips on military genealogy, you can bring your skates or try out their snowshoes (weather permitting), and there will be refreshments and entertainment. $5 per person or $12.50 per family.  Open 1-5 pm.


Elora is also having free public skating at the Elora Arena from 2-3 pm. 


The Town of Milton is hosting family swimming, skating, fitness, art workshops and more. 


The Friends of Island Lake are celebrating Family Day with fun outdoor activities. These include teaching you to fish (bait and rod provided) during seminars at 10 am and 1 pm, a kids’ ice fishing competition, roasting hotdogs, making s’mores, fish hut rentals, scenic trail walks, snowshoeing, skating, pond hockey, and a snow art centre. Weather permitting. Park admission fees apply. 10 am to 4 pm.


The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra is presenting Klassical Hitz for Kids, a family concert from 3-5 pm

Idea Exchange at Clemens Mill Library is sponsoring Robot Wars from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. 

Music by Jake – Three-time Parent’s Choice Award Winner and Juno nominee presents a hilarious and engaging show at the Hespeler Library and Gallery from 1 -2 pm.
